Academic Program
The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has several programs that are ideal for MCAA member companies. We offer a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering with a Building Mechanical Systems specialty; these students study the design aspects of all building HVAC, Plumbing, and Control systems. These students take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam before graduation and work towards a PE License.
We also offer a B.S. in Construction Management that prepares students to enter into the contracting aspect of the business with classes in estimating, scheduling, project management, and financial/cost control. We even offer a dual-degree option where students can stay for the fifth year of study and earn both a B.S. in Architectural Engineering and a B.S. in Construction Management. Many students also opt for our five-year program where they earn a B.S. in Architectural Engineering as well as a M.S. in Architectural Engineering.
MSOE is a teaching-driven university that prides itself on application-based learning. The faculty members at MSOE all have relevant construction industry experience as well as being academically credentialed. There are extensive laboratory experiences in many of the classes so the students can learn in a hands-on environment. The programs enjoy great support from the construction industry and our partners help keep the program current in terms of topical content and cutting-edge technologies.
Awards & Activities
The MCAA Student Chapter at the Milwaukee School of Engineering has had tremendous success over the last decade. The student competition team has qualified for the national finals 7 times since 2006, winning the national championship in 2011 and 2013, and finishing as national runner-up in 2006, 2008, and 2017. The student chapter was also named the MCAA Student Chapter of the Year in 2014.
Members of the MCAA Student Chapter have also won several prestigious scholarships. Julie Burg was a recipient of the MCAA Foster McCarl Memorial Scholarship in 2012. In 2016 Leah Hendricks was the recipient of the MCAA William A Bianco Scholarship, and Andrew Palcan was the recipient of the MCAA Reilly Family Scholarship. In 2017 Sarabeth Haworth also was named the recipient of the Reilly Family Scholarship.
And the faculty advisor, Dr. Blake Wentz has also been recognized by MCAA for his contributions. Dr. Wentz was named the MCAA Educator of the year on three occasions, taking the award in 2011, 2012 and 2015.
