SUNY at Binghamton University

Academic Program

The MCA Binghamton Student Chapter utilizes the academics offered by the University and hands-on activities organized by the BU Student Chapter Board Directors. Our curriculum provides ABET accreditation for a BS Mechanical Engineering or Systems Science& Industrial Engineering Degree that encompasses the application of engineering fundamentals. An HVAC course is offered as a technical elective, which the Board recommends to all MCA BU members. In addition, the directors organize an “Airplane Jeopardy” game, in which students throw paper airplanes at a target and answer questions relating to the mechanical contracting industry such as plumbing, piping, HVAC, and construction. In addition, the Student Chapter attends field trips relating to MCA fields, such as visiting a Nuclear Generation Station and an Anechoic Chamber.

Awards & Activities

Community service and volunteering for our chapter is always emphasized in our small nit family town of Binghamton and Vestal, NY. Chapter members attend a local Vestal school’s science fair to engage Kindergarten – 5th graders in STEM-related activities through arts and crafts. One activity includes making bridges with popsicle sticks and connecting them with glue guns. Chapter members and local youth also attend a Binghamton University engineering event, Discover Engineering, designed for elementary to high school students around town to learn more about engineering and science. MCA students build help youth build mini catapults and test them by shooting marshmallows into targets.
